Orange juice for gout? What kind of a wisecrack is this? Well it isn’t a wisecrack at all. In a small study of 12 fairly young people in Spain in 2003, orange juice lowered uric acid levels, which as very gout sufferer knows, you need to do if you want to beat gout.

Everyone knows there’s vitamin C in orange juice, but very few could tell you by how much a glass of orange juice raises your vitamin C levels, and how long it takes for this to happen. Incredibly, although the vitamin C content of orange juice has been known for decades, this study’s researchers said that the extent to which it raises blood vitamin C levels, and how fast, was not known until this study.

HOW MUCH AND HOW QUICKLY?

Six men and six women drank two glasses of orange juice on the first day, and for the rest of the period (a fortnight) drank a glass in the morning and a glass in the afternoon. This amounted to 500 ml daily, which meant an additional 250 mg of vitamin C daily. Their regular diet during the fortnight gave them an extra 136 mg (men) and 112 mg (women). So their total daily intake was

386 mg (men) and 362 mg (women), which is only a third of vitamin C dietary supplement preparations (1,000 mg) on sale everywhere. After a fortnight of this natural gout remedy the men’s serum (blood) vitamin C level had risen by 52% and the women’s by 22%. The women’s starting levels of vitamin C were higher.

URIC ACID REDUCTIONS

And now the question every gout sufferer wants to know. In two weeks the men reduced their uric acid levels by about –12.5% (0.71 mg/dL) and the women by – 6.5% (0.24 mg/dL). The women’s starting (baseline) uric acid levels were much lower than men: women 3.64 mg/dL (216 mmol/L); men 5.75 mg/dL (342 mmol/L). Every participant reduced their UA level.

WHAT CAN WE LEARN FROM THIS?

These are good reductions when we bear in mind that the additional vitamin C from the orange juice was only 250 mg daily and for only two weeks. It’s possible that twice as much juice, for twice as long, or six months, or a lifetime (in the cases of keeping UA levels down for ever to prevent a recurrent gout attack), could achieve higher reductions. But remember, if you have gout, these were healthy young people (20 – 32) and only 12 people were tested. Your results may not be the same.

These kinds of reductions are not as much as you would achieve on a uric acid lowering drug medication for two weeks. They are probably only helpful in cases of gout at normal UA levels; or in gout cases at slightly excess uric acid (hyperuricemia); or for people with hyperuricemia, but no gout so far, who know they are at risk of it, which indeed they are. On the other hand, you could hardly call orange juice a drug medication.

In a much larger study in 2005 vitamin C for gout was again tested. It studied vitamin C and uric acid levels using dietary supplements, not orange juice. Participants took a 500 mg tablet. Average reductions in uric acid were – 0.5 mg/dL across all study participants and – 1.5 mg/dL in study participants with hyperuricemia.

It is not known for certain why vitamin C has lowered UA levels. It is thought that it encourages the kidneys to excrete more uric acid. Orange juice is also high in potassium which is a useful alkalizing mineral (raises pH) in natural gout remedies. And of course orange juice contains certain flavonoids which assist vitamin C’s absorption and retention. Many vitamin C dietary supplements do not contain these flavonoids, or not sufficient, although some do.

WHAT KIND OF ORANGE JUICE?

The juice used in this study was described by the researchers as “commercial fresh squeezed orange juice”. This is juice squeezed from raw, fresh oranges, not juice from concentrated juice, neither with anything else added. Vitamin C in fresh juice degrades over time, so if you make your own fresh juice, drink up quickly. The important thing is to get, more or less, the amount of vitamin C delivered by the juice in the study. This was 54 mg per 100 mL of juice. So check nutrition content labels carefully.

It was also learnt that orange juice lowered the levels of a prostaglandin, which it is thought, should be lowered.

500 mg vitamin C daily is probably a better target. And orange juice can be counted as part of your daily water target. Drinking lots of water is de rigueur in natural gout remedy theory and gout treatment by pharmaceuticals too.

NB. This article contains medical information, not medical advice. If you have gout, or hyperuricemia, always discuss dietary change with a doctor.

Gout Uric Acid is Prevalent More Among Men Than Women

]]>

Gout and uric acid has an indelible connection. As soon as the uric acid level rises, gout pain starts. But presence of uric acid in our body is absolutely normal. Gout uric acid can cause crystals formation in joints that result in pain. Uric acid crystals are known to form quickly in cooler temperatures. Usually the most and easily affected areas are the big toe, the feet and the ankles. Gout can also occur in places like the knee, elbows, the wrists, shoulders and hips. Even the spine is not left out. Surprisingly, uric acid, known to be the main culprit for gout is produced in our bodies as part of our natural metabolism.

A third of the total uric acid in our body comes from our diet if it is rich in purines. As a normal process, purines get converted to uric acid and its level is directly depended on the type of foods we take, our health condition and also on the intake of fluids. Gout uric acid levels are high among men rather than women. Women can get gout after menopause but usually not before. There can be high levels of uric acid in some people but not all of them are necessarily afflicted with gout. But it is also seen that those with gout have a high level of uric acid content in their bodies.

Usually in normal people uric acid stays in blood, and then after being filtered by the kidneys, passes out with urine. When the level rises uric acid forms crystals that are needle like and settle around the joint areas. Continuous irritation by gout uric acid leads to inflammation of the joints or the area where crystal formation is high. It swells, turns red or purple. These symptoms are followed by acute pain.

Gout can impair the daily activity of people as the risk of temporary immobilization is high. Although gout uric acid can cause a type of arthritis it is essentially a joints related disease. Proper diagnosis has to be performed for gout as crystals can also be formed by calcium deposits instead of uric acid crystals.

Sometimes doctors and patients can be initially misled into believing that gout has set in when a simple trauma or an infection could have inflamed the joint and caused pain. Usually gout is more common among men than women, but after menopause chances of gout can be very high among them also. Gout uric acid is a scourge for many in the world and they are taking precautions with low protein foods and exercises around the joints.

Gout Uric Acid is Prevalent More Among Men Than Women

How To Reduce Uric Acid In The Human Body And Stop Gout Attacks

Gout attacks are caused by high uric acid. To stop gout attacks then, you need to work out how to reduce uric acid in the body. Here, you’ll learn how to reduce uric acid in your body through drug-based, and, natural treatments.

Uric acid is produced by the natural process in our body of the breakdown of compounds called “purines” which exist in our body’s cells and in our foodstuffs. When these breakdown one of the outcomes is uric acid. And uric acid in the human body is a natural, beneficial thing under normal circumstances. But when there is too much uric acid in the human body, it can cause painful gout.

This can happen because higher-than-normal levels in the blood can lead to uric acid crystals being deposited in and around you joints. The big toe is by far the most common place for this to occur, but it can happen in any joint; giving rise to the symptoms of gout such as stiffness, redness, swelling, inflammation, and, horrible pain.

If you have gout now, then you need to get pain and inflammation relief fast…

Most people who visit their doctor and are diagnosed with gout will be put on drug-based anti-inflammatories to reduce inflammation and relieve pain. And they can work very well indeed. But they do have some nasty side effects which can put some people off.

But you’ll also need to reduce uric acid levels, and, keep them there…

Again, the doctor will probably prescribe drugs to do this. They work very well for most people. But they can also have bad side effects, plus, they have to be taken daily for very long periods of time, even lifetimes. This is because they only reduce the acid whilst they are being taken. Once stopped, your high levels can return again.

One of the issues with gout is that frequently occurring attacks can produce permanent damage in the joints affected, and, kidney stones. In the worst cases more serious kidney damage. In order to prevent this, you not only have to get rid of the actual gout attack, you need to prevent further attacks.

Many people faced with taking drugs, for very long periods, to maintain their uric acid at healthy levels, choose to utilize the many benefits of natural treatments…

They have access to a range of totally natural methods to reduce inflammation, relieve pain, and, reduce uric acid levels in the body, and, maintain them there. These are things like the use of; dietary changes, special fruits, selected vegetables, a whole array of herbs, natural ways to cleanse your kidneys, natural detoxing, weight reduction where required, and, lifestyle changes even.

Here are some very quick examples; a bowl of cherries everyday to help reduce inflammation; drinking apple cider vinegar mixed in water everyday to help neutralize the acid; the application of hot and cold compresses to reduce inflammation and increase circulation; a low purine diet to help reduce uric acid production; and many more.

You’re in luck though. There’s a special gout report available online that has all the info. you need in one place. It is what thousands of ex-gout victims worldwide have successfully used to prevent their gout returning. It also contains a special 2 hour gout pain relief program.

And it uses fully-researched, totally natural methods. So that you benefit two ways: (1) you get rid of your excruciating pain very fast, and, (2) you prevent your gout returning, so that you reduce the risk of permanent damage.

If you want to get gout pain relief in 2 hours plus prevent your gout returning in the future, then go to http://gout-relief-today.blogspot.com and discover how you can quickly do both without expensive drugs with their horrible side effects.

Gout Foods: Avoiding Purine-Rich Foods

Gout is caused by an excess of uric acid in the body. Uric acid results from the breakdown of purines. Purines are part of all human tissue and found in many foods. The excess can be caused by either an over-production of uric acid by the body or the under-elimination of uric acid by the kidneys. Also, the ingestion of foods high in purines can raise uric acid levels in the blood and precipitate gout attacks in some people.

Uric Acid and Gout Attacks

Edit Article |

]]>

Uric acid is an organic compound which when found in excessive levels in the body could lead to gout. Uric acid is made up of carbon, nitrogen, hydrogen, and oxygen and it affects the tendons, bodily tissues, and joints. Uric acid and gout attacks are closely related to each other because if your uric acid level is high then there’s a very great probability that you could develop gout.

What is gout?

It is the inflammation of the joints which is characterized by sudden pain and is caused by high levels of uric acid. Gout is a type of arthritis which is quite painful. Gout is sometimes called gouty arthritis.

Hyperuricemia (having a high level of uric acid in the blood) is caused by several factors. If your diet consists of high purine content, you’re a likely candidate for the disease. There are certain foods which contain purine like sea foods, meat and some veggies. Purines are converted to uric acid once they enter the body. Another element is high frustose. If there is an excessive level of frustose in the body, it can also lead to gout.

Purine and fructose affects the function of the kidneys. When uric acid crystallizes inside the kidney, it can become kidney stones. On the other hand, if they crystallize or harden around the bodily tissues, tendons, and joints, it will cause gouts. Since the kidney’s function is impaired, it can’t eliminate the harmful excess uric acid.

If gout is left untreated, it can lead to chronic gout which can create permanent damage to the joints. Since the pain is severe, most gout treatments are concentrated in easing the pain. If the UA levels remain high, gout attacks will become frequent. Therefore, immediate proper treatment is required; take note of the word ‘proper’ because if you receive improper treatment, your condition might get worse. If gout is not treated properly, the patient is also prone to kidney and cardiovascular problems.

Sharp pain on the toe or any other joint area is the first indication of gout. It is accompanied with redness, tenderness, and inflammation. Through laboratory tests, the doctor can make an accurate diagnosis. A fluid is taken from the affected joint and the lab tests will identify the concentration of UA crystals.

There is no known cure for gout but the treatment options can definitely prevent and manage it. Through lifestyle modifications and speedy proper treatments, the gout status can be changed dramatically. You must be able to consult a nutritionist or a dietician so that you can establish a healthy diet regimen. The doctor can also help you in choosing the best treatment option available which will suit the status of your current condition.

There are also natural treatments available like home remedies and herbal remedies for gout. Some say that increasing the fresh orange juice intake can also lower the uric acid in the body. With these treatments, you can surely find one that can work for you and your budget.

If you feel severe and immediate pain on the joints, you could have gout. This condition is prevalent among individuals with weight problems, older men (over 40 years), and those with a family history of gout.

Uric acid and gout attacks are rampant these days so be extra careful. It would be wise to consult your doctor at once to get accurate diagnosis because this condition is sometimes mistaken for other heath problems. Once you’re diagnosed with gout, you need to make the necessary changes in your lifestyle and diet if you want to achieve the best results.

High Uric Acid In Blood Test – Testing For Gout

A test for high uric acid in blood may be called for when your doctor suspects that you may be suffering from gout. Recurring gout attacks can lead to permanently damaged joints and damaged kidneys, so it’s important always to get diagnosed by your doctor. Here, you’ll discover what causes high uric acid, what blood and urine tests can reveal, and, a summary of both drug-based and natural treatments for gout.

A blood test on its own will indicate measured levels of uric acid in your blood. This will tell the doctor whether you have higher-than-normal uric acid levels, and thus gout.

But a combined test which measures the levels of uric acid in both your blood and your urine can give an indication whether it’s your kidneys that aren’t working efficiently enough, or, that there is too much “purines” being produced in your body in the first place.

So what are these purines? They are chemical compounds that we find in our bodies and foods. They are used by our bodies in the processes that provide our bodies with protein and energy. But during those processes, the purines breakdown and uric acid is produced.

Your kidneys first process, then expel, excess uric acid from your body, leaving enough to act as beneficial antioxidants. But, in conditions where either, your kidneys aren’t able to process the acid efficiently enough, or, there is too much being produced by the breakdown of purines, then the excess acid is retained.

In other words there is too much uric acid being circulated in your blood. This then causes your gout, with all its symptoms like redness, inflammation, swelling and agonizing pain.

The combined test will thus establish, first, if you have higher than normal acid levels in your system, and secondly, whether this is caused by too much acid being produced, or, because you kidneys aren’t working efficiently.

If the levels in both your blood and your urine are the same, it indicates that your kidneys are o.k. and that too much is being produced. On the other hand, if the levels in your urine are less than in your blood, this indicates that it is your kidneys that aren’t processing the acid efficiently enough. Either way there is too much in your body and, all too often, the result is painful gout.

Most gout sufferers are prescribed drugs to deal with the symptoms of a gout attack which can last for a week, even longer. These are typically colchicines, corticosteroids and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAIDs). You may also be described things like allopurinol to help reduce the high uric acid levels in your blood. These drugs have proven to be very effective.

But, they can only address the symptoms and not the underlying causes of high uric acid levels. Even the drugs to reduce the acid levels don’t do this. They can reduce the levels but not do anything about these underlying issues. So that, if you were to come off them, your levels are likely to rise again. This is why gout sufferers more or less take these everyday for the rest of their lives.

And let’s not forget their nasty side effects like headaches, diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, stomach cramps, bleeding and stomach ulcers.

You can see then why so many people nowadays are turning to safer, more longer lasting natural remedies to treat their condition. There is just too much to go into detail here, but typical remedies are:-

(1) Drinking 2 to 3 liters of water every day to help flush uric acid out of your system.

(2) Eating cherries each day for their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

(3) Using alternating hot and cold compresses to help circulation and reduce inflammation.

(4) Drinking raw apple cider on a daily basis to help alter blood pH and neutralize uric acid.

(5) Changing to a low-purine diet to reduce the amount of uric acid being produced in your system.

Totally natural remedies can both eliminate the symptoms of gout in the same way as drugs (but without their side effects), plus, help you manage your condition in a way that prevents further gout attacks.

And preventing frequent attacks is very important because they can lead to painful kidney stones, other kidney problems, and, permanent joint damage. In addition, once having suffered a gout attack you are extremely likely to suffer even more.

You’re in luck though. There’s a uric acid gout report available online that thousands of ex-gout victims worldwide have successfully used to prevent their gout returning. It also contains a special 2 hour gout pain relief program.

And it uses fully-researched, totally natural methods. So that you benefit two ways: (1) you get rid of your excruciating pain very fast, and, (2) you prevent your gout returning, so that you reduce the risk of permanent damage.

If you want to get gout pain relief in 2 hours, plus, prevent your gout returning in the future, then go to http://gout-relief-today.blogspot.com and discover how you can quickly do both without expensive drugs with their horrible side effects. Just click here.

We all know that scabies is one of the commonly occurring skin conditions across the world. There have been numerous accounts which suggest that the scabies epidemics usually occur in 30 year cycles. For the most part, these accounts coincided with the wars in the 20th century. Since scabies does not happen to be a reportable disease, all data is based on variable notification and hence it is difficult to ascertain the incidence of scabies.

Cure Gout – Learn How to Cure Gout With 5 Simple Gout Remedies That Flush Uric Acid

Cure Gout – Learn How to Cure Gout With 5 Simple Gout Remedies That Flush Uric Acid

Are you ready to say good bye to the pain, throbbing and inflammation and finally cure gout? If you are, the next 5 minutes of reading this article could help save your joint and save you hours of pain. And you can do this with 5 simple gout remedies that flush uric acid naturally.

But why uric acid? Because uric acid is the problem causing your gout pain! Uric acid is the by product of the body breaking down purines which you consume in your diet. And the uric acid is usually deposited between joints if it is not flushed from the body. And if you learn how to flush the uric acid, you can cure gout naturally.

How to Cure Gout Naturally

Unfortunately, many people allow doctors to prescribe pain killers for their gout problem. Though you might find temporary comfort, you should know that this will only last months to a few years. In the long run, people who use pain killers for gout as their only treatment are very likely to permanently disfigure the joint.

Therefore, don’t assume that gout pain is completely bad. The body uses pain to let you know that you need to change something with your lifestyle and be careful with the joint. In the case of gout, you need to learn how to flush uric acid from your joints and body.

And here are 5 tips that prescription companies do not want you to know about.

5 Gout Remedies

Though some of these gout remedies may seem a little elementary, you must realize that they serve two purposes. They work to cure the gout symptoms and prevent future attacks.

1. You should drink at least 10 to 12 eight-ounce glasses of water each day. Water will help your body flush the crystals out of your system. And another bonus tip is to drink alkaline water with a pH greater than 7. I believe SmartWater would be beneficial.

2. You may also wish to add a half teaspoon of baking soda to a glass of water too. Baking soda has multiple benefits to gout sufferers including dissolving uric crystals, increases solubility of uric acid, and maximizes the volume of body fluids to aid the kidney in excretion of uric acid.

3. It has also been shown the gout sufferers are typically deficient in key vitamins. One vitamin you should immediately supplement is vitamin A which lowers the levels of uric acid.

4. You may also wish to try herbal therapy. Alfalfa is an excellent choice to neutralize high uric acid levels. In addition to its high source of minerals and nutrients, alfalfa has been shown to help dramatically reduce uric acid.

5. Knowledge is the key to not only treating your gout, but also preventing any additional damage to your body. Therefore, we recommend educating yourself on 20 + remedies that have been shown to reduce uric acid levels in the body. These proven, step by step remedies can be found at our Cure Gout website.

Specific Foods High Uric Acid Content Can Contribute To Painful Gout

Specific Foods High Uric Acid Content Can Contribute To Painful Gout

Eating foods high in uric acid can cause an attack of gout/the gout/gouty arthritis, and if you or anyone you know has ever had one of these attacks you know that they can be quite painful. Ironically, what makes this condition somewhat of an oddity is how it targets the big toe joint. As if this isn’t bad enough, attacks can impact other areas as well such as the knee, wrist, elbow, ankle, Achilles tendon, and over time the kidneys or other organs. Joints can be permanently damaged over time if tophi (hard lumps of urate crystals) are allowed to build up in the joint lining.

Specific foods high in uric acid can cause or be a contributing factor for gout. But foods are not the only major cause. Other causes include renal failure, radiation treatment, being as little as 15% overweight, lead poisoning, hypothyroidism, blood disorders, diuretics, and large doses of niacin (nicotinic acid).

Uric acid is a waste product produced when cells are broken down in the body or when foods containing purines are consumed. Most often an attack of gout/gouty arthritis is a simple case of the kidneys not being able to eliminate enough uric acid to avoid it being deposited elsewhere.

Are the kidneys simply not functioning well enough or are they simply overwhelmed by the amount of waste products in the blood? Only a series of test can pinpoint the cause, nevertheless it is likely that foods high uric acid content are at the very least a contributing factor in both first time attacks or recurrent attacks and should be eliminated, or moderated.

In some ways food, gout, and a healthy diet are a dichotomy.  Some of the foods which are generally considered to be the most healthy are the foods high in uric acid. To start with all meat, poultry, and fish contain some purines but not all meat, poultry, and fish are created equal in their uric acid producing potential. The most dangerous ones are herring, sardines, mackerel, anchovies, asparagus, all organ meats especially liver, mussels, mushrooms, meat gravies, brains, spinach, beans, oatmeal, and cauliflower. Right now you are probably thinking that you will likely starve, due to lack of decent food choices, or be forced to eat bananas, rice, yogurt, soy, and nuts from now on. Hold on, let’s talk about this for a minute or two before you join a vegan support group.

Remember when we talked about this condition generally being about high uric acid levels in blood? Perhaps you are just overdoing it by eating too much of a good thing. So use some discretion before ordering that pizza with spinach, mystery meats, anchovies, and mushrooms. Also, if this is the only pizza on the menu make sure to drink plenty of water, avoid alcohol, and take into account whether your medication regime includes any urine concentrating drugs such as diuretics.

While avoiding recurrent attacks may be difficult there are three steps that can be implemented at home to reduce your chances of having a gout attack. First, reduce the intake of purine laden foods (foods high uric acid content) such as shellfish and organ meats; second, drink plenty of fresh water (6 eight ounce glasses a day); and last but not least implement an alternative gout remedy containing the natural ingredients turmeric and milk thistle. By implementing these three steps you will have made great strides on the path to reducing elevated uric acid levels and avoiding future attacks.
